Beauly

The small village of Beauly is a perfect destination for a day out of Inverness. There are many things to do here, from enjoying local food and drink to discovering the rich history of the area. Beauly Priory from the outside.

Beauly Priory

Founded around 1230 by monks of the Valliscaulian order, the remains of Beauly Priory can be explored today. Brought to an end by the reformation in the 1500s, only the Abbey Church remains standing. However this is somewhere you can absorb yourself in the past, and walk the paths trodden by monks hundreds of years ago. Fans of Outlander may be interested to know that Beauly Priory is the location where Claire meets the seer Maisri in the novels.

Fishing on the River Beauly

The Beauly Angling Club was founded during World War II, and has around 7 miles of bank fishing alongside ten named pools. Day and weekly fishing permits for visitors are available to make sure you can enjoy as much fishing as you can fit in on your break! Salmon and sea trout can be found all along the river, which is a beautiful place to spend some time.

Unique shopping in Beauly

Beauly has many independent shops which allow you to take home a slice of the Highlands. Old School Beauly has clothing and jewelry, with many local and ethical brands available. Nearby is Campbells of Beauly, a country tailor and outfitter which has provided clothing to the Royal family. If you are looking for a bit to eat, there are many options. Try Corner on the Square on the High Street. You can sit in and try some delicious local produce, and even buy plenty to take away with you.
